Few days back , I was stuck in a big Problem while developing a Network Application . This thing was that my app will send Http request and will get a subsequent Http response . And after that , I will Http Broadcast Message from server that "You are ELIGIBLE now!!!"
So , When I built the application , It successfully request through Http and got response for it , But the Broadcast Message was not being received.
To see that whether the Packet was being received upto the device and to verify that whether my code is incorrect , I came up with the following Solution
Requirements
-Windows
-iPhone
-WireShark
-Connectify
Step 1 :- Install Connectify on Windows
Connectify is a tool for sharing your internet connection.
you can download Full version of Connectify Hotspot here
Install it on windows and it will ask for a reboot . Reboot your PC .
Step 2 :- Install Wireshark On Windows
Wireshark is the best tool available in the market for analyzing packet flow in the network and most important is its free .
download Wireshark here and install it
Step 3 :- Configure a network
open the side-Window of Connectify
1)Enter a name in Hotspot name field ,ex:-Connectify-me
2)Enter a password
3)In the "Internet to share" field , select "Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller " if your incoming internet connection is through LAN and select "Wi-fi" is your incoming internet connection is through "Wi-fi"
4)In the "Share Over" field , select "Wi-fi" if you chosen "Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller " in the "Internet to Share" field and "Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller " or "Wi-fi" if you chosen "Wi-fi" in the "Internet to share" field.
This is because you cant connect to internet and share your internet through the same LAN port
4) Select an appropriate Sharing Mode
5)Check "Allow Internet Access" and "Local Network Access"
Step 4 :- Configure Wireshark
1)open Wireshark
2)You need to select an interface over which you will monitor the incoming and outgoing packets
For that , click the button in top left corner called "List the Available Capture interfaces" below the "File "
button .It will show list of packets through vaious interface
Select the interface "Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller " if have shared your internet conection through "LAN" and to choose the "Wi-fi" interface you need to check the IP address of each interface and select the one that matches with your wifi-ip address
3)Click on start
Now you are able to check all the traffic through that interface
Step 5 :- Connect your iphone with Connectify
1)Go to settings
2)select "Wi-fi"
3)go to "choose a network"
4)You will find "Connectify-me" in the available networks list
5)select "Connectify-me " and enter password and then "join"
Step 6 :- All Set
You are done , All you have done is made your PC a proxy server for your iphone so that all packets flow to iphone via PC
You are all ready to check the incoming and outgoing packets !! HURRAYYYY !!!!
open browser in safari in iphone and go to http://www.youtube.com .
then go to Wireshark in PC , you will some new packets in the list ,you can select any packet and check all its contents , flags , header .
